Burleigh Heads has an ancient and interesting history that dates back millions of years! Its formation is due to the numerous eruptions from nearby Mount Warning, with flowing lava eventually reaching shore to form Burleigh headland and Point Danger. Geological processes gave rise to a unique landscape composed of different rock types – fascinating for geologists who flocked there in the 1920s seeking specimens. This impressive natural phenomenon supports its own ecosystem full of vegetation and animals alike.

Burleigh Headland offers the unique opportunity to explore nature and experience wildlife that has been preserved since pre-colonial times. This coastal stretch of land is a haven for many local plant species and animals like Koalas, Flying Foxes, Gliders and over 60 birds!
